ROCAL - West and Central African lion conservation network
Introduction

Created by the signatory members of the Garoua Declaration (dated 13 April 2002 and representing minutes of the constitutive assembly), the West and Central African Lion Conservation Network (acronym ROCAL : Réseau Ouest et Centre Africain pour la Conservation du Lion) is a regional non-profit association.

The association has as primary objective to assist the preparation, implementation, monitoring and capitalization of strategies and action programs in West and Central Africa that aim to conserve large predators in general and the lion in particular.

VISION:
West and Central Africa manage their natural resources sustainably.


MISSION:
To ensure the conservation and sustainable management of the lion in West and Central Africa.

The association specifically aims at:


ROCAL - West and Central African lion conservation network Capacity building of wildlife managers;
ROCAL - West and Central African lion conservation network Promotion of study and research programs to monitor lion populations;
ROCAL - West and Central African lion conservation network Assistance in the implementation of national, sub-regional and regional plans and strategies;
ROCAL - West and Central African lion conservation network Lobby with decision makers and financial institutions for measures towards a better conservation status of the lion;

To reach these objectives, the association will collaborate with universities and institutions for scientific and technical research, civil society, NGO's, field staff, national, sub-regional and regional institutions, etc.
